summer fashion crimes...

here in the grove we love summer. nothing quite beats those few glorious hours of sunshine the great british weather provides. not only does this give us the opportunity to top up our tans (that originated in the med of course) we also get to show off our favourite summery ensembles...
as is the case with most things in life there is always that handful that ruin it for the rest of us- and by ruin i mean burning a hole through my retina and upsetting the atheistically pleasing balance i prefer. below is a handy guide of what not to do!

and as much as we love you iggy im not entirely sure this is appropriate...

if you would like to share your fashion faux pas with us, or that of others (or simply wish to send us fan mail) drop us a line at w210.thegrove@gmail.com

how to become an efficient business woman

J is a business woman.

below are a few of her infallible tips on how to make it to the top and stay there.

1) protein shakes- when you don't have time to eat this is what gets you through the day. J recommends Chemical Nutrition - Pro mass (Vanilla) and Maximuscle Promax when she needs that extra kick.

2) become a speed reader- speed reading courses are often on offer on the popular internet website groupon (http://www.groupon.com/)

3) get a couple of minions - you could do with all the extra help you can get. J prefers really good looking ones with the same shoe size as her so they can break in her louboutins.

J is in the process of writing a self help book for business women, in-between being extremely busy and important.

hair loss in women is more common than you think

T was again rushed to hospital after od'ing (that is slang for overdose) on hair and nail tablets on friday night (she had mistakenly taken them instead of her headache pills)
i had just returned home (after a LFW event) to find T lying on teh stairs. at first, i thought it was a practical joke, so i just carried onto my room
however, i was alarmed to see her still lying there at 5am (on my way to get a glass of water)
i poked her and she didn't respond... alarm bells from a car across the road started ringing (which was annoying as i was trying to concentrate)... i had seen this in movies before, so i called 111 and they came to the rescue
she is in critical, but stable condition at a uk based hospital (i sneakily took this pic of T at the hospital grounds)

we are aware that hair loss in women is a taboo subject, but be assured that it does not necessarily mean you're not a proper women who has two x chromosomes.
there are many claimed remedies for female hair loss, but before taking any, you need to ask yourself, which treatments are medically proven to work and which are not? hair transplantation is probably your best option

there is fine line between friendship and crime

as we haven’t been able to activate the monitise tab on the blog, T’s hand modelling has become of upmost importance in helping us pay the rent/ and live the w210 lifestyle we so adore
(this is a preview of her latest campaign - selling j, k, l and teh shift key)

ask anyone who is anyone, and they will tell you that summer is over
... the onset of winter brings with it environmentally low humidity = dry hands
oh no! yes! so keeping T's hands in tip top condition is as crucial as keeping her hair clean
now what is a great benefit for dry hands is the application of oil such as a moisturizer (also known as an emollient or lubricant)
i was thrilled at finding a bottle of aveda (rosemary mint) moisturiser in the condiments cupboard at work… without any hesitation – i took the bottle
you could imagine my surprise when i turned around and found our CEO standing behind me (does no one knock anymore??!!) …there was…a moment of awkwardness, but i gracefully (or so i thought) explained the situation
i was under teh impression that she understood, but i have just had a meeting request from her… i wonder if lunch is giong to be provided

negotiation is the name of the game: part i

with all the world events; common wealth games, children and social awkwardness - seeing people you really would rather not see, negotiation techniques have become a rather hot topic in the grove
there is a unique kind of dread of bumping into someone who you either don’t want to talk to, or, someone who you don’t mind, but don’t know well enough to carry off more than a “hello, how do you do” level of conversation
as the strained silence becomes more and more obvious, the conversation derails to the extent you wish you never left the house, or had perhaps gone ahead with poking your eye out with that pencil
ideally, ignoring each other’s presence should have been your first option, however, that opportunity has clearly passed you by. so here are 2 avenues for you to consider:
“how is the family?” this is a genius idea (not only because J&T came up with it) as the family is a massive brush stroke. it illustrates you care, while not having to go into the specifics (and your memory bank) of trying to figure out if they had a brother/ sister/ mother/ married/ single
second, is your way out…. “i need to pee” (again, a marvellous idea). please don’t refer to it as number one or number two (this level of detail will make your get out of jail card lose its credibility) and this will take you back to that awkward position that you found yourself in at the beginning

what not to do at a wedding

although there are countless self help books on what not to do at weddings, this is a quick guide if one doesn't have days to spare to read books with limited pictures

things that make others stare (not in a good "i'm checking you out" way)
1. stealing wine from the kid's table
2. dancing with boys who look like they could be 17 (even if they look like they are about to turn 17 in the following 2 months)
3. eating other guests' chocolates

things that are ok to do
1. dance with dan's dad

must haves
1 &2. a bride and groom (wedding 101) .. though this was a breath-taking bride and very handsome "groom"
3. castle
4. a car full of hillarious friends

we like condiments...

...and the kind folks at the electric on portobello road. a special shout out to kestas, the lithuanian barman who enjoys a game of noughts and crosses as much as the next person, sunsets, holding hands and is cunning enough not to be conned by a couple of face models

whats your favourite condiment?
